Down Memory Lane

I was recently travelling to Shimoga from Mangalore. Shimoga is my mom’s paternal place. I always used to visit this place while I was a kid every summer vacation. I still remember the games I used to play ther while I was a kid. But this time I was visiting to say “Good Bye” as I am leaving to US in a week’s time. So, the route from Mangalore to Shimoga is just scenic.

The day had come July 5 2012 and that’s the day when I quit my first job which I joined right after college on the same day couple of years back. I joined work at D E Shaw & Co after getting selected from campus. I still remember my interview and it went for almost over an hour and the wait after it to see who all got through. The wait for the results was a nervous one as everyone hoped that they get selected as it was one of those companies which provided a handsome compensation.

If you are in Mangalore during the time of Magha masa, specifically the “Ratha Saptami” period, then you cannot miss the Mangalore Car Festival which is popularly called as Kodiala Teru in Dakhina Kannada region. This period is usually the last week of January or the first week of February. It is a five day festival with various religious activities spanned across these six days. This festival happens at the premises of the Sri Veera Venkateshwara Temple, Car Street, Mangalore

Of late I have been very active on github and reading a lot of code and contributing as well. It just amazes me on how geeks around the world are developing so many cool applications and maintaining them. The best part is that its FREE and you can reuse it. I should have started contributing on github while I did my engineering but never really took it seriously. Over the last couple of weeks I have learned a lot of new technology.

I took a nice vacation during the last week of December 2011. This was a completly unplanned trip and in the end it turned out to be awesome. During this time I visited the Banergatta Butterfly Park, Ranganatittu Bird Sanctuary and Ooty. I managed to click some wonderful pictures especially lots of Birds and Butterflies. I clicked all of them with my Cannon 500D and my new 55mm-250mm IS2 lens.
